I'm really on the fence with this whole issue. I've never been a big fan of cold medicines, even before we had kids. I have had plenty of colds of course, and I would dose myself up on cold meds and nothing seemed to help. Sure, I might be able to bring my fever down a bit, but that's about it. It doesn't make the cold go away any faster, and certainly doesn't make me feel any better...if anything the meds make me feel more drowsy and a little foggy, which I hate.

Having those reactions myself, I've never felt comfortable giving meds for colds to Alyssa. We did give cold meds a shot on a few different occasions, but to no avail. Instead we use alternative ways to "treat" the symptoms now. She responds very well to the Sudacare vapor plug-ins and Vicks rub on her chest. She also does much better with a humidifier in her room. So I'm really not comfortable putting drugs into her body when they are serving no purpose other than to make her groggy and a little more lethargic.

I can't say that they don't work for everyone, obviously...I guess my point is that I'm just not a huge fan of putting things like medicines into my babies' bodies, and that's just my personal outlook.

I don't know if pulling all of the cold meds is a step in the right direction, I don't think that I could make an educated statement on the whole matter. I think this is something that needs much more scrutiny and hopefully they find the right answers!

Excellent topic. I agree with everything you said. I would want my child to feel better too and if taken in the correct amount does seem to work, why not?
